Application of ribotyping for differentiating aeromonads isolated from clinical and environmental sources

Article Abstract:

Aeromonads isolated from patients with gastroenteritis, from the source water, treatment plant and distribution sytem in a public water supply in Iowa were characterized by ribotyping. Ribotypes identical to Aeromonas hydrophila and A. sobria were detected from multiple sites in the water system. Based on these findings, water treatment plant operational deficiencies were corrected. The results show that ribotypingis useful for detecting water-borne pathogens in water treatment plants and distribution systems.

Comparison of ribotyping and repetitive extragenic palindromic-PCR for identification of fecal Escherichia coli from humans and animals

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that between ribotyping and repetitive extragenic palindromic-polymerase chain reaction assays, the latter is more accurate, reproducible, and efficient for identifying fecal Escherichia coli in polluted waters carrying fecal matter from animal or human sources.

Identification of fecal Escherichia coli from humans and animals by ribotyping

Article Abstract:

Ribotyping can differentiate human fecal E. coli from fecal E. coli from other animals. Ribotyping is a type of DNA fingerprinting technique and was used to identify E. coli from the feces of humans, cattle, swine, horses, chickens, turkeys, dogs, and migratory geese.
