Biomedical characterization of an L-xylulose reductase from Neurospora crassa

Article Abstract:

The identification, heterologous expression, purification, and characterization of a highly active and stable L-xylulose reductase (LXR) from the genome sequence of the filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa are reported. The enzyme is characterized as stable and active over a wide range of temperature and pH and is useful in the co-utilization of D-xylose and L-arabinose for the production of xylitol or ethanol.

Diversity of "Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus," based on the omp gene sequence

Article Abstract:

The genetic variability of 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus' isolates is analyzed using an omp-based PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) approach. Results indicate that the species 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus,' even within a given region, might comprise several different variants.

First record of the rare species Aeromonas culicicola from a drinking water supply

Article Abstract:

The recovery of the rare species Aeromonas culicicola, known as mosquitoes in India, from a drinking water supply in Spain is described. The cytolytic enterotoxin gene AHCYTOEN was present in the water strains, which are genetically identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
