Body fatness and clustering of cardiovascular disease risk factors in Portuguese children and adolescents

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine whether clustering of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) risk factors exist and to analyze the relationship between body fatness and the clustering of other risk factors. The CVD risk factors included biological risk factors such as high blood pressure (HBP) and percentage of high fat mass (%HBF), total cholesterol and one behavioral/lifestyle risk factor (low physical activity index (LPAI).

Patterns of daily physical activity during school days in children and adolescents

Article Abstract:

The pattern of physical activity during weekdays in school children and adolescents is studied to determine the pattern of moderate-to-vigorous activity (MVPA). 84 children within the range of 8-15 years old were assessed. In conclusion the MVPA showed that boys engaged more in MVPA than girls, though girls tended to be more active during school hours and boys after school.

Daily differences in patterns of physical activity among overweight/obese children engaged in a physical activity program

Article Abstract:

A cross sectional intervention study of daily physical activity of overweight/obese children is compared when they attended a physical activity program and when they did not. It is suggested that a physical activity program can help increasing daily physical activity in obese children with a special focus on moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity level.
