Brown coat color in Icelandic cattle produced by the loci Extension and Agouti

Article Abstract:

A study conducted on the inheritance of brown coat color in Icelandic cattle shows that the brown color is due to the action of the A+ allele of the Agouti (A) locus on the E+ allele of the Extension (E) locus. The E+ allele produces black coat color but in the presence of A+ it produces brown coat color. The A+ allele disturbs the synthesis of eumelanin pigment in certain areas of the body which causes red pigmentation in the ears, poll area and a stripe down the back. The other allele of the E locus, E(super D) and e are unaffected by the presence of A+.

Inheritance and linkage relationships of morphological and isozyme loci in As-genome diploid oat

Article Abstract:

The genetic characterization of Avena L (oat) has lagged behind that of other cereals. A study aimed to determine the inheritance of morphological traits and isozyme markers in As-genome diploid oat, and to determine links between monogenically expressed traits and markers. All traits conformed to a model of monogenic inheritance, apart from lemma color. Five linked pairs of loci were found and a loose linkage group of two morphological and two isozyme loci was identified by multipoint linkage analysis.
