Can 15-locus mycobacterial interspersed repetitive unit-variable-number tandem repeat analysis provide insight into the evolution of Mycobacterium tuberculosis?

Article Abstract:

Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium bovis isolates are analyzed to evaluate if the mycobacterial interspersed repetitive units-variable-number tandem repeats (MIRU-VNTR) commonly used for epidemiological studies can define the phylogeny of the M. tuberculosis complex. MIRU-VNTR is a valuable tool for phylogenetic studies and can also define an evolutionarily uncharacterized population of M. tuberculosis complex organisms.

Aphid-symbiotic bacteria cultured in insect cell lines

Article Abstract:

Two aphid secondary bacteria informally known as T type and U type were isolated from three aphid species and cultured in cell lines of three insect species. It suggested that the two bacteria persist in aphids because competition between them is limited by differences in tropism for insect tissue or cell types.

Clonothrix fusca Roze 1896, a filamentous, sheathed, methanotrophic [gamma]-proteobacterium

Article Abstract:

Clonothrix fusca Roze 1896 is a commonly used filamentous, sheathed and methanotrophic [gamma]-proteobacterium, which exhibits complex morphological differentiation. The study of the compound's phylogeny and physiology demonstrates the presence of various methyl genes in the compound.
