Characteristics and competition for nest cavities in burrowing Procellariiformes

Article Abstract:

Nest cavity dimensions, hatching success and competition for nest cavities were investigated to explain the structural differences of the Procellarriiforms breeding community between Cory's Shearwater and small petrels. Nest cavity characteristics between species revealed that nest cavity size was strongly related to species body size. Furthermore, high hatching success was observed on sheltered nest cavities. Competition between Cory's Shearwater and small petrels influences structure of the procillariiform breeding community.

Characteristics of foraging habitats and chick food provisioning by tropical roseate terns

Article Abstract:

Research observing the foraging habitats of Roseate Terns found on the Seychelles' Aride Island is presented. Particular attention is given to observations of flock sizes and breading habits, as well as to ecological projects aimed at preserving the Roseate Terns.

Contrasting brood sizes in Common and Arctic Terns: the roles of food provisioning rates and parental brooding

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the differences which exist in the brood sizes, parental foraging behavior and daily metabolizable energy intake of chicks of the Common Tern and the Arctic Tern.
