Multiplicity of ammonium uptake systems in Corynebacterium glutamicum: role of Amt and AmtB

Article Abstract:

The roles of Amt and AmtB in the various ammonium uptake systems in Corynebacterium glutamicum, a Gram positive soil bacterium used in industrial production of amino acids, have been studied. Amt has been found to mediate uptake of methylammonium into the cell with high affinity. The process is strictly dependent on the membrane potential. Hints of another, not known until now, low-affinity ammonium-specific uptake system were seen. Ammonium and methylammonium are substrates of Amt. AmtB accepts only ammonium as a transport substrate.

Comparison of toxinotyping and PCR ribotyping of Clostridium difficile strains and description of novel toxinotypes

Article Abstract:

Toxinotyping and PCR ribotyping of Clostridium difficile strains have been compared and novel toxinotypes described.A large PCR ribotype library of c. difficile strains was screened to find more information on prevalence of variant strains and emergence of novel toxinotypes.
