Construction and analysis of beta-lactamase-inhibitory protein (BLIP) non-producer mutants of Streptomyces clavuligerus

Article Abstract:

Streptomyces clavuligerus and its beta-lactamase-inhibitory protein (BLIP) non-producer mutants have been studied. The gene that encodes BLIP was disrupted in wild-type S. clavuligerus and in a clavulanic acid nonproducing mutant. S. clavuligerus has ability to produce betalactam metabolites with antifungal, antibiotic and b-lactamase-inhibitory activities.

emm and sof gene sequence variation in relation to serological typing of opacity-factor-positive group A streptococci

Article Abstract:

Serological typing of opacity-factor-positive group A streptococci (GAS) and emm (M protein gene) and sof gene sequence variation are discussed. Strong correlation of certain M serotypes with certain emm sequences exists without regard to strain background. Strong association of specific anti-opacity-factor types and gene sequence types has been found.

A host-vector system for analysis and manipulation of rifamycin polyketide biosynthesis in Amycolatopsis mediterranei

Article Abstract:

Rifamycin polyketide biosynthesis in Amycolatopsis mediterranei is discussed with emphasis on a host-vector system for analysis and manipulation of the process. Genes encoding the 10 modules of the rifamycin modular polyketid synthases (PKSs) were replaced with a hygromycin-resistance marker gene.
