Construction of specific erythromycin resistance mutations in the temperate lactococcal bacteriophage TP901-1 and their use in studies of phage biology

Article Abstract:

A procedure for construction and isolation of specifically designed mutations of the temperate lactococcal phage TP901-1 was designed. This technique was based on homologous recombination between the wild-type phage and a plasmid consisting of a phage DNA fragment having the desired mutation. It was shown that such mutants can be employed to examine phage biology and assign functions to putative genes.

Analysis of the collar-whisker structure of temperate lactococcal bacteriophage TP901-1

Article Abstract:

Study was conducted to test the hypothesis that neck passage structure (NPS) was involved in the infection of phage TP901-1 by analysis of an NPS mutant. It was determined to form a collar-whisker complex but was shown as nonessential for infection, phage assembly and stability.

Identification of a replication protein and repeats essential for DNA replication of the temperate lactococcal bacteriophage TP901-1

Article Abstract:

The gene orf13 of the lactococcal bacteriophage TP901-1 codes a replication protein that is critical for DNA replication. Replication appears to originate at repeats located within the gene.
