Control of rRNA synthesis in Escherichia coli: A systems biology approach

Article Abstract:

The Escherichia coli genome has seven rRNA operons, each with two tandem promoters, P1 and P2, from which the 16S, 23S, and 5S rRNA transcripts are expressed. A theoretical framework is provided that integrates the experimental data into a consistent picture that should finally help to resolve the controversies and misunderstandings in this field.

RNA interference: biology, mechanism, and applications

Article Abstract:

The recent studies indicate that in the context of RNAi, the genome also undergoes alterations in the form of DNA methylation, heterochromatin formation, and programmed DNA elimination. The result of these changes with the silencing effect of gene functions is exercised as tightly as possible.
