Determination of essential and variable residues in pediocin PA-1 by NNK scanning

Article Abstract:

The antimicrobial activities of pediocin PA-1 mutants were evaluated and compared to determine which residue(s) is responsible for its inhibitory activity against the food-borne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes through a technique called NNK scanning. As a consequence, the functional responsibility of each residue was estimated by counting the number of active mutants allowing identification of candidate essential/variable residues, proving the effectiveness of the NNK scanning technique.

Survival of Campylobacter spp. in darkling beetles (Alphitobius diaperinus) and their larvae in Australia

Article Abstract:

The most frequently reported food-borne disease in humans in Australia namely Campylobacter infection is investigated to know the persistence of Campylobacter spp. in or on darkling beetles. It is found that unless very short turnaround times are used, beetles colonized in one production cycle are most likely to still be colonized during next cycle of chickens.

Occurrence and antibiotic sensitivity of Listeria monocytogenes strains isolated from oysters, fish, and estuarine water

Article Abstract:

The presence of Listeria spp. in oyster, fish, and seawater samples is analyzed and isolates for antibiotic sensitivity is tested. Listeria monocytogenes is found in 4.5% of fish samples and 8.3% of seawater samples and is not recovered from oysters.
