Development of a plasmid-mediated reporter system for in vivo monitoring of gene expression in the archaeon Methanosarcina acetivorans

Article Abstract:

A plasmid-mediated gene reporter system that utilizes fusions of archaeal promoters to the lacZ gene from Escherichia coli for in vivo expression in Methanosarcina acetivorans was developed. It was found that this system complements and expands the current genetic techniques for studying genetics of the methanosarcinal Archaea by providing a rapid method for monitoring and quantifying gene expression.

Enhancement of Shiga toxin production in enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli serotype O157:H7 by DNase colicins

Article Abstract:

The antagonistic activity of colicinogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) on the production of Shiga toxin (Stx) by E. coli O157 is described. DNase colicins increase Stx production and colicinogenic bacteria are antagonistic to O157 infection.

Recombinant expression and characterization of a reducing-end xylose-releasing exo-oligoxylanase from bifidobacterium adolescentis

Article Abstract:

The family 8 glycoside hydrolase (RexA) from Bifidobacterium adolescentis is expressed in Escherichia coli. The recombinant enzyme is characterized as a reducing-end xylose-releasing exo-oligoxylanase.
