Distinct parasegmental and imaginal enhancers and the establishment of the expression pattern of the Ubx gene

Article Abstract:

Three new embryonic enhancer elements were detected in the Ultrabithorax (Ubx) gene upstream regulatory region in Drosophila embryos. The enhacer activities of these elements are bounded at PS6 by the product of the hb gene. However, they soon break down this boundary to be expressed in the anterior region. Expression of the enhancer elements in imaginal tissues is dependent on an entirely separate group of imaginal disc enhancers. Unlike the embryonic enhancer elements, the latter are not bounded by the product of the Hb gene. There expression is also not confined to an anterior or posterior position.

Time-series analysis of seasonal changes of the O inversion polymorphism of Drosophila subobscura

Article Abstract:

The O inversion polymorphisms of Drosophila subobscura were studied over a 15-year period to identify seasonal variations. Using time-series analysis, the O inversion polymorphisms exhibited short-term seasonal changes which ran concurrently with long-term directional trends. Two O arrangements exhibited strong seasonal components, which were greatly influenced by climatic factors such as temperature and humidity.

Dosage compensation of the Drosophila white gene requires both the X chromosome environment and multiple intragenic elements

Article Abstract:

Full dosage compensation is exhibited by X-linked white genes during transposition to autosomes, when inserted into ectopic X chromosome sites. The X-linked white gene exhibits only partial dosage compensation during its transposition to autosomes. The high dosage compensation helps achieve hyperdosage compensation with one copy in males and two copies in the females.
