Diversity and significance of mold species in Norwegian drinking water

Article Abstract:

The diversity, occurrence and distribution of mold species in public drinking water in Norway are identified and the significance of the species identified for water quality and human health are examined. The results have shown that the mycobiota of water should be considered when the microbiological safety and quality of drinking water are evaluated.

Combined imaging of bacteria and oxygen in biofilms

Article Abstract:

The transparent sensors for enabling simultaneous microscopic imaging of [O.sub.2] were developed by spin coating an ultra thin layer of a luminescent [O.sub.2] indicator onto cover- slips. Results conclude that the new coverslip sensors constitute a crucial tool for [O.sub.2] imaging in microbiology.

Viable Blastocystis cysts in Scottish and Malaysian sewage samples

Article Abstract:

Blastocystis cysts were detected in 38% (47/123) of sewage treatment works of which 58% of influents and 28% of effluents contained viable cysts. Viable cysts, discharged in effluent, provide further evidence for the potential for waterborne transmission of Blastocystis.
