Effects of inbreeding on morphological and life history traits of the sand cricket, Gryllus firmus

Article Abstract:

Inbreeding has negative effects on the morphology and life history of Gryllus firmus, the sand cricket. High levels of depression in growth rate and fecundity from inbreeding might have effects on the probability of survival of colonies newly established. Life history traits seem to have more inbreeding depression than morphological traits, 5.3% vs 0.4%.

Evidence of genetic isolation between sexually monomorphic and sexually dimorphic traits in the water strider Aquarius remigis

Article Abstract:

Quantitative genetic estimates have been made of heritabilities and genetic correlations for male and female in Aquarius remigis, a water strider. Total length and most factors in body size are significantly heritable for both sexes. The shape of the genetic correlation matrix was similar in the sexes. Some traits seem to be genetically isolated.

Predicting correlated responses in natural populations: changes in JHE activity in the Bermuda population of the sand cricket, Gryllus firmus

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the use of genetic parameters to predict geographical covariation of juvenile hormone esterase and proportion of macroptery traits among natural populations. Three predictions made by quantitative genetic analysis are presented.
