Engrailed and hedgehog make the range of wingless asymmetric in Drosophila embryos

Article Abstract:

Asymmetry was noted with regards to the activity of Wingless within the embryonic epidermis of Drosophila. Utilization of two assays for Wingless activity shows that Wingless acts at a different range in the posterior and anterior directions. Such asymmetry follows in part from Wingless protein's differential distribution. Engrailed domain restriction and presumptive segment boundary are two factors that spatially regulate the transport of Wingless.

Membranes, trafficking, and signaling during animal development

Article Abstract:

Embryo development involves myriad number of cellular events, related to membrane trafficking and cell motility, which have to be integrated to orchestrate developmental directions in animals. Events such as secretion, endocytosis, membrane microdomain segregation, intracellular transport, and targeting to lysosomes mediate the regulation of signaling pathways.

Regulated endocytic routing modulates Wingless signaling in Drosophila embryos

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that the Wingless trafficking in Drosophila embryos is mediated by endocytosis and lysosomal degradation, restricting the range of Wingless to the posterior. Data indicate that the endocytic routing is regulated by the activation of a signaling pathway involving the epidermal growth factor receptor.
