Evidence that loading of cohesin onto chromosomes involves opening of its SMC hinge

Article Abstract:

Cohesin's hinges are not just dimerization domains, as they are essential for cohesin's association with chromosomes, which is blocked by artificially holding hinge domains together but not by preventing Scc1's dissociation from SMC ATPase heads. The results have indicated that entry of DNA into cohesin's ring requires transient dissociation of Smc1 and Smc3 hinge domains.

Retrospective birth dating of cells in humans

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to show that the level of (super 14)C in genomic DNA closely parallels atmospheric levels in genomic and can be used to establish the time point when the DNA was synthesized and cells were born. Retrospective birth dating is an applicable strategy that can be used to measure cell turnover in man under physiological and pathological conditions.

Mapping the location of TFIIB within the RNA polymerase II transcription preinitiation complex: a model for the structure of the PIC

Article Abstract:

Biochemical probes were used to probe the architecture of RNA polymerase II (POl II) transcription preinitiation complex (PIC). Specific interaction of the TFIIB core domain with POl II position orients the promoter DNA.
