FIN219, an auxin-regulated gene, defines a link between phytochrome A and the downstream regulator COP1 in light control of Arabidopsis development

Article Abstract:

FIN219 has been found to determine a link between the downstream regulator COP1 and phytochrome A in light control in Arabidopsis development. FIN219 is an auxin-regulated gene. Plants must adapt to changing environments, light being on of the very important ones. Study findings suggest FIN219 may be a critical link for phytochrome A-mediated far-red inactivation of COP1. To find genes involved in light inactivation of COP1, a genetic screen was used to identify extragenic modifier mutations of a temperature-sensitive cop1 allele.

HFR1 encodes an atypical bHLH protein that acts in phytochrome A signal transduction

Article Abstract:

HFR1 has been found to encode an atypical bHLH protein. The protein acts in phytochrome A signal transduction. Phytochromes are photoreceptors plants use to adapt growth and development to light conditions. A new mutant, hfr1 (long hypocotyl in far-red) is described. IT shows reduction in seedling responsiveness to continuous far-red light (FRc). HFR1 may act to modulate phyA signaling via heterodimerization with PIF3. Abundance of HFR1 mRNA is far greater in FRc than in continuous red light. This suggests a potential mechanistic basis for the specificity of HFR1 to phyA signaling.

The COP1-SPA1 interaction defines a critical step in phytochrome A-mediated regulation of HY5 activity

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on Arabidopsis COP1-SPA1 interactions. The authors describe the characterization of these interactions at both genetic and biochemical levels.
