Fatty acid-oxidizing consortia along a nutrient gradient in the Florida everglades

Article Abstract:

Stable isotope probing was employed to investigate the fate of carbon from the fermentation products propionate and butyrate in soils from three sites along the nutrient gradient in the Florida Everglades in North America. Archaeal sequences from eutrophic microcosms included sequences characteristic of Methanomicrobiaceae, Methanospirillaceae, and Methanosaetaceae in which oligotrophic microcosms were dominated by acetotrophs, including sequences related to Methanosarcina, suggesting accumulation of acetate.

Identification and characterization of the CYP52 family of Candida tropicalis ATCC 20336, important for the conversion of fatty acids and alkanes to alpha,omega-dicarboxylic acids

Article Abstract:

Research describes ten members of the cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (CYP) alkaline-inducible P450 gene family, CYP52, from Candida tropicalis ATCC 20336. Reverse transcriptase coupled polymerase chain reaction generated transcriptional patterns show that specific CYP52 genes convert long-chain fatty acids and n-alkanes into their cognate dicarboxylic acid.

Production of novel tetrahydroxyfuranyl fatty acids from alpha-linolenic acid by Clavibacter sp. strain ALA2

Research discusses the bioconversion of alpha-linolenic acid by Clavibacter sp, strain ALA2 into tetrahydroxyfuranyl fatty acids (THFAs). Results describe identification of these THAFs, determination of their structure, their chemical characterization, and their production aspects.
