Characterization of two inducible phosphate transport systems in Rhizobium tropici

Article Abstract:

Rhizobium tropici contains two phosphate transport systems, a low-affinity system and a high-affinity system. Both are induced by phosphate starvation, inhibited by ATPase inhibitors, and are unidirectional.

Foliar chlorosis in symbiotic host and nonhost plants induced by Rhizobium tropici type B strains

Article Abstract:

Mutants of Rhizobium tropici strain CIAT899 which are defective in extracellular polysaccaride (EPS) synthesis can induce severe interveinal chlorosis in common bean and lead trees. However, by increasing the levels of the carbon source, the wild type CIAT899 were also induced to form chlorotic lesions. Experiments on other Rhizobium strains showed that the ability to induce chlorosis is a property of a number of R. tropici type B strains, and these strains can induce chlorosis in several dicot species which are not symbiotic hosts of R. tropici.

Poly(A) polymerase modification and reverse transcriptase PCR amplification of environmental RNA

Article Abstract:

A protocol that couples poly(A) polymerase with a multifunctional reverse transcriptase (RT) for targeted cloning of environmental prokaryotic cDNA is described. The reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) cDNA synthesis kit demonstrates the feasibility of directly accessing prokaryote RNA (rRNA and/or mRNA) in environmental samples, but the results also show potentially important problems.
