Functional and genetic characterization of mcpC, which encodes a third methyl-accepting chemotaxis protein in Bacillus subtilis

Article Abstract:

A research on methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins (MCPs) was conducted to describe its role in the chemotactic behavior of Bacillus subtilis encoded by the gene mcpC. The DNA segment of the spl gene on the B. subtilis chromosome underwent cloning, which also subjected its nucleotide into a sequence determination. Findings revealed that the MCPs are functional in chemotaxis of B. subtilis. The ability of mcpB and mcpC to mediate taxis into aspartate, histidine and glutamine also led to the analysis that there is a family of binding proteins.

Antioxidant vitamins C and E affect the superoxide-mediated induction of the soxRS regulon of Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

An experiment was performed to determine if Escherichia coli cells can affect the superoxide-dependent activation of the soxRS regulon in vivo. In this study, E. coli cells were treated with ascorbate or alpha-tocopherol. The results provided insights into the toxicity mechanisms of redox-cycling compounds used in the formulation of intracellular oxide. Alpha-tocopherol was found to prevent superoxide-dependent membrane damage.

New members of the ctrA regulon: the major chemotaxis operon in Caulobacter is CtrA dependent

Article Abstract:

Research describes the regulation of flagellar and chemotaxis genes and the transcription of cagA and mcpA, which is controlled by DNA replication. Data show that chemotaxis gene regulation is mediated by CtrA in association with other chemotaxis proteins in Caulobacter crescentus.
