Further evidence for latitudinal inversion clines in natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster from India

Article Abstract:

Thirteen paracentric inversions including one in the X chromosome were determined by chromosomal analysis of eight Indian natural populations of the Drosophila melanogaster. Common cosmopolitan, rare cosmopolitan, recurrent endemic and unique endemic inversions were found in the Drosophila populations. It was further shown that the southern Indian populations were relatively better differentiated than those found in the northern part and that the frequencies of the four cosmopolitan inversions exhibited latitudinal clines.

Recombination, statistical power, and genetic studies of sexual isolation in Drosophila

Article Abstract:

Chromosome recombination lengths were examined in hybrids of Drosophila pseudoobscura and D. persimilis to determine optimum numbers and spacing of genetic markers. Results reveal that the chromosome arms are not inherited as wholly linked units. There was substantial recombination recorded along the second and third chromosomes of the species.

An interspecific functional complementation test in Drosophila for introductory genetics laboratory courses

Article Abstract:

A functional conservation between the Drosophila protein Muscleblind (Mbl) and its human ortholog MBNLI is demonstrated and described in a genetics laboratory class. This serves to illustrate gene expression concepts such as spatial and temporal control over gene transcription and pre-mRNA splicing.
