Genetic divergence between populations and species of talitrids from Aegean Islands

Article Abstract:

The allozymic variation of four species of supralittoral amphipod including Talitrus saltator, Orchestia gammarellus, O. montagui and Talorchestia deshayesii, was explored in samples collected from five Aegean islands. Low levels of genetic variability were found with slight differences between the species. Data from intergeneric comparisons indicated a separation of the genus Orchestia from the other two genera. Gene flow levels were found to be generally low within T. saltator but generally high within O. montagui.

Osozyme patterns and their inheritance in the tachinid Compsilura concinnata

Article Abstract:

The parasitic fly Compsilura concinnata is used as a biological control for some moth pests in North America. A new study investigates the range of isozyme patterns in different Compsilura colonies and seeks to determine the genetic basis of variation in polymorphic enzymes. Some 37 loci were found, of which 14% were polymorphic, and their mode of inheritance and allozymic characteristics were determined.

Genetic control of isoenzymes in Sitka spruce

Article Abstract:

The study of the Allozyme variants for 14 enzyme systems in seed tissues of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) from 134 seed-orchard clones indicates that most of the Allozyme variation in the 134 Sitka spruce clones was controlled by 14 loci, and the expected Mendelian segregation ratio was followed by 7 of all loci while 7 of the remaining loci deviated significantly from the ratio.
