Genetic variation in natural populations of mate (Ilex paraguariensis A. St.-Hil., Aquifoliaceae) using RAPD markers

Article Abstract:

Genetic variation in natural populations of Ilex paraguariensis A. St.-Hil., Aquifoliaceae, the mate tree, native to South America, has been studied using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Findings show 85% of the variation is within populations studied and only 15% is between populations.

Population genetic structure of the endangered freshwater crayfish, Austopotamobius pallipe, assessed using RAPD markers

Article Abstract:

Population genetic structure of the threatened European freshwater crayfish, Austopotamobius pallipe, has been studied by using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Results suggest that the Irish stock came from a human movement of individuals from an Atlantic refugium. Specimens came from 21 Western Europe locations, one in Germany, 16 in France, two in Ireland, and two in England.

Genetic diversity and recruitment of the tropical palm, Euterpe edulis Mart., in a natural population from the Brazilian Atlantic forest

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on heart-of-palm tree Euterpe edulis Mart. The authors have investigated the genetic diversity and recruitment of this plant in a natural population in Southern Brazil, and the results have suggested that natural selection could have affected the increase in the heterozygote frequency toward the adult stages at different loci.
