Genetic structure of island populations of the anurans Rana temporaria and Bufo bufo

Article Abstract:

Gene flow in frog and toad populations on islands in the Baltic Sea is extensive, suggesting these species disperse well within this metapopulation system. Amphibians have generally been seen as having low dispersal ability, but the results of this study show his assumption should be closely examined for each population under discussion.

Population structure and coil dimorphism in a tropical land snail

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that a strong population structure of snails with little movement between tree-based demes may result in the fixation of coiling morphs at a very small spatial scale, but apparent dimorphism at all larger scales, is tested. It is concluded that population structure alone cannot stabilise the coil dimorphism.

Contrasting population structures in two sympatric anurans: implications for species conservation

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis of common toad Bufo bufo and common frog Rana temporaria to study population structure and genetic diversity is given. The observations highlight that two broadly similar species can exhibit very different population dynamics.
