Genetic structure of seven Mexican indigenous populations based on five polymarker loci

Article Abstract:

The investigation into the genetic structure of 7 Mexican native populations on the basis of 5 PCR-based polymorphic DNA loci found that they were similar and that more than 96% of the gene diversity could be due to individual variation within the population. The homogeneity of Mexican Indians suggested that they were ideal candidates for a study on complex diseases

Vitamin D receptor polymorphisms and bone mineral density in Mexican women without osteoporosis

Article Abstract:

Polymorphisms in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene did not show a correlation to bone mineral density in a study of 98 Mexican women (aged 55, plus or minus 10 years) without previous diagnosis of osteoporosis. The VDR polymorphisms corresponding to restriction endonucleases Apa I, Bsm I, and Taq I were investigated.
