Geographical differentiation of the population of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv manihotis in Colombia

Article Abstract:

Restriction fragment length polymorphism was used to assess genetic diversity in Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis which causes cassava bacterial blight in South America. This study was undertaken in conjunction with plasmid DNA analysis as well as ribotyping. Results show a diversified genetic structure in this bacterial strain as well as a high degree of geographic differentiation among the study populations.

Characterization of Xanthomonas campestris pathovars by rRNA gene restriction patterns

Article Abstract:

The utilization of genus, species and pathovar levels of rRNA gene restriction patterns for the characterization of Xanthomonas campestri is discussed. Bacterial strains were subjected to DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, hybridization, immunodetection of rRNA-rDNA duplexes and pathogenicity tests. Results indicate that pathogenicity patterns can be used to characterize Xanthomonas strains.

Genetic structure and population dynamics of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis in Colombia from 1995 to 1999

Article Abstract:

The population genetics and temporal dynamics of the Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis reveals high genetic diversity. Over the years, haplotype frequency showed differences but not in composition. Implications of the results in disease management are discussed.
