Group-specific component (GC) in Curiau and Pacoval, two African-derived Brazilian populations

Article Abstract:

The group-specific component (GC) has been analyzed in two African-derived Quilombo populations from Curiau and Pacoval in the Brazilian Amazon. With high frequencies of GC*1F and lower frequencies of GC*1S, these populations are similar to each other and to other African-derived Brazilian populations, as well as to African populations, but unlike Europeans and South American Indians.

Blood pressure, seasonal body fat, heart rate, and ecological differences in Caboclo populations of the Brazilian Amazon

Article Abstract:

A study to compare blood pressure and related cardiovascular risk factors among three Caboclo communities of Brazilian Amazon is presented. Results suggest that seasonal variation does not affect average blood pressure in men, but it does affect the women.
