Hydroxylation and carboxylation-Two crucial steps of anaerobic benzene degradation by Dechloromonas strain RCB

Article Abstract:

The metabolic intermediates formed with nitrate as the electron acceptor is investigated as a pert of our ongoing studies on the anaerobic degradation of benzene by Dechloromonas strain RCB. The results of these studies provide the first documentation of the mechanism of anaerobic nitrate-dependent metabolism of benzene in pure culture and also provide significant insight into the initial process of oxidation of this compound in the absence of oxygen.

Anaerobic 1-alkene metabolism by the alkane- and alkene-degrading sulfate reducer Desulfatibacillum aliphaticivorans strain CV2803

Article Abstract:

The alkane- and alkene-degrading, marine sulfate-reducing bacterium Desulfatibacillum aliphaticivorans strain CV2803 is examined for its 1-alkene metabolism. The pathways have indicated that diverse initial reactions of 1-alkene activation have occurred simultaneously in the same strain of sulfate-reducing bacterium.
