Identification of a spatially specific enhancer element in the chicken Msx-2 gene that regulates its expression in the apical ectodermal ridge of the developing limb buds of transgenic mice

Article Abstract:

A study conducted of the chicken Msx-2 genome shows that its 348-bp 5'-flanking region contains a sequence which enhances the expression of a reporter gene in the apical ectoderm ridge in the limb buds of transgenic mice. The study also shows that the mesodermal and ectodermal expression of Msx-2 have different control sequences. Thus there are separate cis-regulatory elements which control the different regions of Msx-2. In the chick Msx-2 controls the growth and patterning of the limb buds.

Characterization of chicken syndecan-3 as a heparan sulfate proteoglycan and its expression during embryogenesis

Article Abstract:

Chicken syndecan-3 is a heparan sulfate proteoglycan that occurs in many tissues of the developing chicken embryo, including the brain and neural tube, limb buds, bones, lens, otic vesicle and sclerotome. Syndecans are transmembrane proteins that may function as receptors for fibroblast growth factor or other signaling chemicals.
