Immunomagnetic separation of Cryptosporidium parvum from source water samples of various turbidities

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the effects of sample turbidity on the recovery of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts using two immunomagnetic separation (IMS) kits. The objectives of the study was to identify an IMS kit that generated high purified oocyst suspensions, to determine turbidity levels and to use the IMS kit for the evaluation of the effects of age on the recovery of C. parvum oocysts. Results indicate that IMS is a promising alternative to flotation procedures for the recovery of oocysts from turbid water matrices.

Identification of Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts in United kingdom noncarbonated natural mineral waters and drinking waters by using a modified nested PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism assay

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that nested polymerase chain reaction based DNA restriction fragment length polymorphism assay can detect 5 or more Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts in water samples. Data show that the technique identified oocysts in all the 14 water samples tested whereas only 12 and 8 are positive by microscopy and direct polymerase chain reaction, respectively.

Comparison of Cryptosporidium parvum viability and infectivity assays following ozone treatment of oocysts

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts. The inactivation of these oocysts after the chemical, physical and environmental stress treatment has been investigated.
