Impact of soil drying-rewetting stress on microbial communities and activities and on degradation of two crop protection products

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to investigate the influence of soil storage related stress on the resistance and resilience of different microbiological soil characteristics (MSCs) by assessing the impact of single severe drying-rewetting cycle. It is concluded that various structural and functional MSCs are not resistant to drying-rewetting stress and that resilience depended strongly on the parameter investigated.

New molecular screening tools for analysis of free-living diazotrophs in soil

Article Abstract:

Research describes the design and development of a fixed-primer-site method with six polymerse chain reaction protocols to amplify the same nifH fragment of soil-living diazotrophs. Results show that the method amplifies nifH sequences that were previously not detected by the universal primer set. It also distinguishes between diazotroph populations in different soils.

mRNA extraction and reverse transcription-PCR protocol for detection of nifH gene expression by Azotobacter vinelandii in soil

Article Abstract:

Research describes an effective total RNA direct extraction method for the detection of soil microbial communities and their nifH gene expression. Results reveal that nifH gene expression is correlated with bulk nitrogen fixation activity in soil and liquid culture of the Azotobacter vinelandii.
