In situ expression of nifD in geobacteraceae in subsurface sediments

Article Abstract:

A highly conserved gene involved in nitrogen fixation is investigated to determine whether the metabolic state of geobacteraceae involved in bioremediation of subsurface sediments might be inferred from levels of mRNA for key genes. The findings indicate that it is possible to monitor one aspect of the in situ metabolic state of Geobacteraceae species in subsurface sediments through analysis of mRNA levels.

c-Type cytochromes in Pelobacter carbinolicus

Article Abstract:

Genes for heme biosynthesis and system II cytochrome biogenesis are identified in the Pelobacter genome and shown to be expressed. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis gels of protein extracted from acetoin-fermenting Pelobacter carbinolicus cell consisted of three heme-staining bands, which are confirmed by mass spectrometry to be among the 14 predicted c-type cytochromes.

Lack of electricity production by pelobacter carbinolicus indicates that the capacity for Fe(III) oxide reduction does not necessarily confer electron transfer ability to fuel cell anodes

Article Abstract:

The stability of Pelobacter carbinolicus to oxidize electron donors with electron transfer to the anodes of dis evaluated. Study reveals that half of the cells growing on the anode surface are P. carbinolicus but there is nearly equal number of planktonic cells of P. carbinolicus.
