Is parental care a constraint on the habitat use of common eider females?

Article Abstract:

The impact of parental care on habitat selection in Common Eider females was examined by observing post-nesting activity for females with young and those without ducklings. No difference was observed in terms of movement from the nesting colony to the feeding areas. However, brood-caring ducks had shorter secondary movements than their counterparts. Similar feeding habitat and feeding mode for both female types suggested the absence of parental care impact on habitat use.

Rejection of artificial parasite eggs by gray kingbirds in the Bahamas

Article Abstract:

The response of the gray kingbird, Tyrannus dominicencis, to artificial eggs of shiny cowbird, Molothrus bonariensis, added to their nests is monitored to determine the egg rejection behavior of the former. Results show that kingbirds rejected cowbird eggs within 48 hours. Since the contact between these two species is fairly short for behavioral evolution to develop, this rejection behavior of kingbirds may be a carry-over from ancestral populations.

The influence of habitat, prey abundance, sex, and breeding success on the ranging behavior of Prairie Falcons

Article Abstract:

Behavioral linkages between ground squirrels, which serve as prey to Prairie Falcons were investigated to explain why ground squirrel population influences the raptors' ranging behavior and habitat selection. Falcon behavior was measured with varying prey abundance. The patchy distribution of landscape features associated with different densities and availabilities of squirrels condition its ranging behavior and habitat selection.
