Isolation and genetic diversity of Gambusia hubbsi (mosquitofish) populations in blueholes on Andros Island, Bahamas

Article Abstract:

Isolation and genetic diversity of Gambusia hubbsi (mosquitofish) populations is discussed relative to fish from blueholes, isolated vertical caves which filled with water as sea levels rose over 15,000 years just past, on Andros Island, Bahamas. No bluehole population seems to be a source from which other bluehole populations were came, and genetic drift seems to have had a great effect on allozyme allele frequencies.

Population structure and dispersal in the Canary Island caddisfly Mesophylax aspersus (Trichoptera, Limnephilidae)

Article Abstract:

Population structure and dispersal have been studied in the Canary Island caddisfly Mesophylax aspersus in five populations on three islands. Allozyme variation was surveyed. Very significant population structuring was seen with significant within-population structuring. It appears that occasional long-distance dispersal within and between islands is the main influence on the population structure.

Detection of isolation by distance at microsatellite loci

Article Abstract:

Variation at three microsatellite loci has been studied in five sea beet populations on the UK Dorset coast with detection of isolation by distance. Results are related to estimates of genetic distance at microsatellite loci in human groups. All three types of marker can find similar patterns of population structure.
