Lactobacillus oligofermentans sp. nov., associated with spoilage of modified-atmosphere-packaged poultry products

Article Abstract:

Unidentified lactic acid bacterium (LAB) isolates detected in spoiled, marinated, modified atmosphere packaged (MAP) broiler meat products were identified and analyzed for phenotypic properties and to produce biogenic amines. It indicates that the LAB strains detected in various MAP broiler meat products belong to a new species Lactobacillus oligofermentans sp. nov.

Burkholderia cepacia genomovar III is a common plant-associated bacterium

Article Abstract:

Burkholderia cepacia genomovar III occurs in the rhizosphere of maize, wheat, and lupine, according to researchers who used DNA-DNA hybridization, whole-cell protein electrophoresis, and 16S ribosomal DNA sequence analysis. This organism also causes cepacia syndrome in cystic fibrosis patients.

Effects of rice seed surface sterilization with hypochlorite on inoculated Burkholderia vietnamiensis

Article Abstract:

Hypochlorite can cause drug resistance mutations to appear in Burkholderia vietnamiensis when it is used to sterilize rice seeds. The hypochlorite may react with the surface of the seed, forming a chlorine coating that forms mutagenic chloramines.
