Loops, lineage and leukemia

Article Abstract:

Several scientific studies on leukemia have focused on the process of lineage or cell-type restriction. Lineage issues can be better examined by focusing on how multipotential hemopoietic cells register their diverse hemopoietic potential. Scientific evidence on the interactivity and competitiveness of loops in gene expression have already been unearthed. The adoption of a single lineage requires the re-setting of an equilibrium in favor of one loop.

The zinc finger transcription factor Egr-1 is essential for and restricts differnetiation along the macrophage lineage

Article Abstract:

The role of Egr-1, a zinc finger transcription factor, in myeloid cell development was investigated using both differentiation-inducible myeloid leukemia cell lines and normal myeloblasts. Antisense oligodeoxynucleotides were coupled with the culture medium to determine the effect on macrophage differentiation. The results indicate that Egr-1 is essential for and restricts differentiation of myeloblasts along the macrophage lineage.

TAF,250 is a bipartite protein kinase that phosphorylates the basal transcription factor RAP74

Article Abstract:

A transcription factor subunit was discovered that binds preferentially with and phosphorylates the transcription factor RAP74. The protein, TAF250, possesses a structure with two kinase domains at either end of the molecule which are involved in the phosphorylation of RAP74. The selectivity of proteins needed for covalent modification of transcription factors has opened areas for investigation on the regulation of these factors.
