Microbial utilization of free and clay-bound insecticidal toxins from Bacillus thuringiensis and their retention of insecticidal activity after incubation with microbes

Article Abstract:

Microbiological research shows that insecticidal toxins produced by the microorganism Bacillus thuringiensis subspp. kurstaki and tenebrionis retain their toxicity when bound to montmorillonite and kaolinite homoionic clay in the presence of reduced nitrogen. The insecticidal toxins exhibited toxic activity for up to forty days following their exposure to nonsterile soil. Thus, toxins may build up in soils following harvest.

Activity of free and clay-bound insecticidal proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis against the mosquito culex pipiens

Article Abstract:

Results show that free and clay-bound insecticidal protein toxins from Bacillus thuringiensis sub sp. israelensis cause 85 to 100% mortality of Culex pipiens mosquito. Data indicate that toxicity is mediated by synergistic interaction between protein components of the insecticidal crystal proteins.

Insecticidal activity associated with the outer membrane vesicles of Xenorhabdus nematophilus

Article Abstract:

Research shows that live cells of Xenorhabdus nematophilus and the outer membrane vesicle proteins possess oral insecticidal activity against Helicoverpa armigera larvae and cytotoxicity toward Sf-21 cells. The outer membrane proteins exhibit chitinase activity.
