Microbiological quality of bagged cut spinach and lettuce mixes

Article Abstract:

The analysis of 100 bagged lettuce and spinach samples have indicated mean total bacterial counts of 7.0 [log.sub.10] CFU/g and a broad range of <4 to 8.3 [log.sub.10] CFU/g. Most probable numbers (MPN) of >=11,000/g coliforms are found in 55 samples and generic Escherichia coli bacteria is detected in 16 samples, but no Escherichia coli count has exceeded 10 MPN/g.

Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli var. fuscans is aggregated in stable biofilm population sizes in the phyllosphere of field-grown beans

Article Abstract:

The occurrence of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli in biofilms and as solitary cell on bean leaves during seed-borne epidemics in the field is determined. A demonstration that cells of X. axonopodis pv. phaseoli var. fuscans aggregated in biofilms constitute a more stable population than do solitary populations is also presented.

Multiple introductions of the Old World begomovirus Tomato yellow leaf curl virus into the new world

Article Abstract:

Phylogenetic analysis of three genomic regions has shown that Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) from western North America is distinct from TYLCV isolated from eastern North American and the Caribbean. The analysis has supported the passage of this Old World begomovirus into the New World.
