Microsatellite analysis of Pinus taeda L. in Zimbabwe

Article Abstract:

A study to determine whether Pinus taeda introductions into Zimbabwe came from one US region or whether the population is mixed, having introductions from east and west of the Mississippi River Valley has been carried out. The study shows it to be an admixture with five novel alleles in the population not represented in indigenous US populations, perhaps because of de novo mutation or introgression with other introduced North American pines or sampling error.

Phylogeny of African cichlid fishes as revealed by molecular markers

Article Abstract:

Phylogeny of cichlid fishes in three lakes of the East African Rift Valley is discussed based on what has been found through use of molecular markers. The fish species flocks arose in each lake by explosive adaptive radiation and mtDNA-based trees add support for the idea of monophyly in the Lake Victoria superflock, but are ambiguous when it comes to phylogeny of the flock in Lake Malawi.

Paternity and gene dispersal in limber pine (Pinus flexilis James)

Article Abstract:

Paternity and gene dispersal have been studied in limber pine (Pinus flexilis James), long-lived conifer, using allozyme loci in 518 seeds from an isolation population in northeastern Colorado. Indirect techniques were also used. The size of genetic neighborhoods and interpopulation gene flow were investigated.
