Molecular phylogenetic exploration of bacterial diversity in a Bakreshwar (India) hot spring and culture of Shewanella-related thermophiles

Article Abstract:

Molecular analysis of the thermophilic iron-reducing microorganisms from a hot spring in Bakreshwar, India, reveals that the sediment samples are associated with gamma-Proteobacteria, cyanobacteria, and green nonsulfur and low GC gram-positive bacteria as determined by 16S ribosomal DNA analysis. Data indicate that the gamma-Proteobacteria cobranches with Shewanella, the iron-reducing bacteia.

Metagenomic characterization of Chesapeake Bay virioplankton

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the first estuarine viral community metagenome from the Chesapeake Bay is presented with a focus on the taxonomic, functional and genotypic diversity. Virioplankton displays seasonally dynamic patterns of abundance, diversity and composition.

Diversity of Wolbachia endosymbionts in heteropteran bugs

Article Abstract:

Molecular phylogenetic characterization of 134 Wolbachia strains shows little correlation between Wolbachia species and host systematics, indicating horizontal transfers of Wolbachia during the evolution of Heteroptera.
