Multiparametric analysis of waterline contamination in dental units

Article Abstract:

The formation of a biofilm within a small-bore tubing gives rise to bacterial contamination of dental unit waterlines. Pathogens colonize synthetic surfaces in dental unit waterlines and can increase to a dangerous level. Pseudomonas aeruginosa shows a random distribution in dental unit waterlines and never appears in tap water that is remote from or near the contaminated waterlines. Sphyngomonas paucimobilis, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus and Methylobacterium mesophilicum are also found in the waterline isolates.

Production of pyrroliquinoline quinone by using methanol utilizing bacteria

Article Abstract:

The utilization of methanol as thecarbon and energy source for the extracellular production of pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) in methanol utilizing bacteria is discussed. A jar fermentor was used to examine the PQQ production of the selected bacteria. It was found that the level of iron and magnesium have significant effects on the amount of PQQ produced, the level of methanol dehydrogenase activity and on the amount of extracellularly produced protein in the cells of the bacteria.

Oligophilic bacteria as tools to monitor aseptic pharmaceutical production units

Article Abstract:

Researchers have discovered the presence of oligotrophic bacteria in rooms that were designated as clean because standard culture media showed no culturable bacteria were present. Molecular techniques have shown that the number of bacteria in an environment is far greater than the number that can be cultured on traditional media.
