New glimpses of an old machine

Article Abstract:

Eukaryotic M/R complexes, composed of Mre11/Rad50 complex, participate in DNA repair by stimulating DNA ligase IV-mediated end-joining by Mre11 complexes in eukaryotes. The DNA binding site in Rad50 is formed by dimerization. Research findings suggest a role for the M/R complex in bridging DNA ends in nonhomologous end-joining process.

Interchangeable parts of the Escherichia coli recombination machinery

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that the homologous recombination in the damaged DNA is carried out by parts of the two "recombination machines" or proteins interchanging to produce a single-stranded DNA filament, coated with RecA protein, as shown by mutants deficient in the presynaptic filament formation in Escherichia coli.

Intersubunit signaling in RecBCD enzyme, a complex protein machine regulated by Chi hot spots

Article Abstract:

An experimental study leading to a new hypothesis on how the RecBCD enzyme of Escherifhia coli is regulated by Chi, a special nucleotide sequence in the DNA is presented. A study into the role of RAD52 in retrosequence formation is presented.
