Novel bacterial and archaeal lineages from an in situ growth chamber deployed at a mid-atlantic ridge hydrothermal vent

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to determine the phylogenetic diversity of a microbial community in Mid-Atlantic Ridge using a growth chamber positioned near a deep-sea hydrothermal vent. Results show that temperature shifts and chemistry of hydrothermal fluid influence microbial diversity.

Archaeal and bacterial glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraether lipids in hot springs of Yellowstone National Park

Article Abstract:

The microbial mats and sediments from various hot springs in Yellowstone National Park were analyzed. Results concluded that the Glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (GDGTs) bacteria are developed from geothermally heated surrounding soils.

Population structure and phylogenetic characterization of marine benthic archaea in deep-sea sediments

Article Abstract:

Phylogenetic characterization and population structure of marine benthic archaea in deep-sea sediments are discussed. These microbes are important in marine picoplankton assemblages. A complex archaeal population structure was found by phylogenetic analysis of rDNA sequences. Significant depth-related variability in the population was seen.
