Novel keratinase from Bacillus subtilis S14 exhibiting remarkable dehairing capabilities

Article Abstract:

The isolation of a keratinolytic-producing Bacillus subtilis strain and the characterization of the exceptional dehairing properties of its subtilisin-like keratinase are reported. It is found that this enzyme can be an alternative to sodium sulfide, the major pollutant from tanneries, and may completely replace it.

Genetic modification of Bacillus subtilis for production of D-chiro-inositol, an investigational drug candidate for treatment of type 2 diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome

Article Abstract:

The genetic modification of Bacillus subtilis for production of D-chiro-Inositol(DCI) from myo-inositol is reported. DCI is a drug candidate for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome since it improves the efficiency with which the body uses insulin and also promotes ovulation.

A derepression system based on the Bacillus subtilis sporulation pathway offers dynamic control of heterologous gene expression

Article Abstract:

A novel system is designed to express and secrete heterologous proteins in Bacillus subtiltis by using a derepression system. The gene is placed under the control of the abrB promoter and Spo0A is controlled by using an isopropyl-[beta]-D-thiogalactopyranoside) (IPTG)-inducible promoter.
