Four Beta-adrenoceptor subtypes in the mammalian heart

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to compare the functions and pharmacological properties of the four Beta (B) adrenoceptor subtypes that affect cardiostimulation in several mammalian species. Cardiac B1 and B2 adrenoceptors promote myocardial relaxation and mediate sinoatrial rate, contractile force and arrythmias. The B3 adrenoreceptor controls cardiodepressant effects while the B4 adrenoceptor mediates the the cardiostimulant effects of of nonconventional partial agonists.

Nuclear waste: the Academy and million-year estimates

Article Abstract:

The National Academy of Sciences' report, 'Technical Bases for Yucca Mountain Standards,' affirms the feasibility of million-year performance assessments for a permanent nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain, NV, despite a contrary report by peer reviewers. The Dept. of Energy peer reviewers concluded that forecasts of tectonic activity rates, volcanism, and natural resource occurrence and value are doubtful and unquantified.
