Outward migration of Houbara bustards from two breeding areas in Kazakhstan

Article Abstract:

The outward migration patterns of nine Houbara bustards (Chlamydotis undulata macqueenii) from two breeding sites in Kazakhstan were studied. The bustards were tracked by satellites during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. The results showed that the bustards from the Taukum desert migrated southwest towards the Kyzylkum desert and then south-southeast, while the birds from the Buzachi peninsula migrated south towards Turkmenistan and then west towards south Iraq. The interindividual variation in migration timing, duration and patterns were reported.

Spring migration of western sandpipers along the Pacific Coast of North America: a telemetry study

Article Abstract:

Western sandpipers were radio-tagged to monitor their migration behavior along the Pacific Coast of North America in the spring of 1992. Flight pattern was observed from California to Alaska through both aerial and ground monitoring. There were practically no differences in length of stay among sites or between sexes. A short-flight pattern was suggested the Western sandpipers' migratory movements.

Overview of shorebird abundance and distribution in wetlands of the Pacific coast of the contiguous United States

Article Abstract:

The human degradation of wetlands along the Pacific Coast of the Americas, used by migrating shorebirds, means that it is important to identify critical areas and to manage them correctly. A new study of censuses from 1988 to 1995 provides an overview of shorebird abundance and distribution in wetlands of the Pacific coast of the contiguous United States. Details of the study are presented.
