Phylogenetic inference with RAPDs: some observations involving computer simulation with viral genomes

Article Abstract:

The performance of random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) on complete viral genomic sequences was investigated using computer simulation. Insignificant differences were observed in size distributions and number of RAPD fragments between viral genomes and the random sequence. Therefore, the structured and nonrandom nature of flaviruses did not violate the predictive value of a renewal theory model.
