Post-transcriptional regulation of the E/Daughterless ortholog HLH-2, negative feedback, and birth order bias during the AC/VU decision in C. elegans

Article Abstract:

The study focuses on the function and regulation of hlh-2, the C-elegans ortholog of Drosophila Daughterless and mammalian E proteins. The role for helix-loop-helix (hlh-2) in promoting transcription of lag-2 is established by obtaining genetic evidence that hlh-2 activity is important for the anchor cell/ventral uterine precursor cell (AC/VU) decision, showing that hlh-2 activity is required for lag-2 expression in the AC, and demonstrating that potential HLH-2 binding sites in the lag-2 promoter are necessary for efficient transcription during the AC/VU decision.

A glutamate receptor-interacting protein homolog organizes muscle guidance in Drosophila

Article Abstract:

The establishment of specialized cell-cell junctions plays a determining role in the formation of mature patterned organs in all molecular organisms. The homolog of Glutamate Receptor-Interacting Proteins (DGrip) act as a key component of proper muscle guidance according to an experiment conducted.

Human Rif1, ortholog of a yeast telomeric protein, is regulated by ATM and 53BP1 and functions in the S-phase checkpoint

Article Abstract:

The function of the human ortholog of saccharomyces cerevisae Rif1 is reported. The data revealed that human Rif1 contributes to the ATM-mediated protection against DNA damage and point to a remarkable difference in the primary function of the protein in yeast and mammals.
