Preferential male transmission of an alien chromosome in wheat

Article Abstract:

Chromosome 5HL from Elymis trachycaulus was transferred into common wheat and assigned to the homoeologous group 5 of Triceae species by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. Results showed that chromosome 5HL was transmitted in 20% of the female gametes and 97% of the male gametes in the genetic background of wheat. This suggests that a gene located on 5HL promotes male gamete competition and that the homoeologous group 5 chromosomes in Triceae species carry genes that affect their transmission through male gametes.

A linkage map of seven allozyme loci in the Hessian fly

Article Abstract:

Locations of phosphogluconic acid dehydrogenase (6PGDH), isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH), phosphoglucomutase (PGM), mannose-6-phosphate isomerase (MPI), malic acid dehydrogenase (MDH), phosphoglucoisomerase (PGI), and fumarase (FUM) have been identified in the Hessian fly. The mapping of these allozymes has been achieved by conducting planned crossings of the insect. The gene pairs MDH and MPI, and 6PGDH and FUM, are linked to each other and are autosomal. IDH, PGM and PGI are sex linked and comprise a linkage group.
